What happens to what you type

This policy covers The Cost Desk at thecostdesk.com. The site is run under the trading name TheCostDesk, which is not a registered company, from Andhra Pradesh, India. In this policy "we" means TheCostDesk. You can write to us at [email protected].

Project sizes, loan amounts, quotes you check, the state you pick and anything you type into the search box are handled by code running in your browser. The site has no accounts, no sign-up and no form that sends your entries to us.

If you press Save estimate, the estimate is stored in your browser's local storage on this device only. Clearing your site data removes it. The Copy link button puts your numbers in the web address (the part after the question mark). Anyone you send that link to can see those numbers.

The site is delivered by Cloudflare, a web hosting and security company. Like any host, it handles your IP address, the pages you request, your browser type and the time, in order to deliver the site, keep it running and protect it from abuse. Cloudflare keeps these records under its own privacy policy, and its servers are in many countries, so this information may be processed outside your own. We do not use these records to identify you, and we have no list of visitors.

Analytics. To see how many people visit and which pages are read, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It counts visits without cookies and without following people from site to site, and we see totals, not individuals.

Cookies. The site sets no cookies of its own. The only thing it keeps on your device is the saved estimates described above, and only if you save one.

Ads and tracking. The site shows no ads, uses no advertising or social-media trackers and has no affiliate links. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Because the site does not track you across sites, there is nothing to turn off, and we honor them.

If ads or any analytics that use cookies are ever added, this page will say so first, and a consent notice will be shown to visitors where the law requires one.

If you write to [email protected], we receive your message and your email address. We use them to reply and, if you report an error, to look into it and note the correction. We keep a message only as long as needed for that, and then delete it. We do not sell or share it, and we do not add you to a list. Our email is hosted by Google Workspace, which handles messages under its own terms.

Pages cite sources such as government agencies and retailers, and link to them. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which this policy does not cover.

The site is written for adults planning home projects and personal finances. It is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.

We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not pass your details, or the fact that you visited, to contractors, lenders, advertisers or anyone who sells leads. There is no sign-up, so there is nothing of that kind to pass on. This is also true of the numbers you type: they stay in your browser.

What we hold about a visitor is close to nothing: a message and address if you wrote to us, and the hosting records described above, which sit with Cloudflare. To see, correct or delete a message of yours, write to [email protected] from the address you used. Saved estimates are on your own device and you can delete them there.

United States. Residents of California and several other states have rights to know what personal information a business holds, to have it deleted or corrected, and to opt out of its sale or sharing, without being treated worse for using those rights. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of; the other rights work as described above. You may use an authorized agent.

European Economic Area and United Kingdom. The legal basis for the hosting and analytics records is our legitimate interest in running a secure website. You have rights to access, correct, delete and object, and to complain to your data protection authority.

India. The site is run from India, so the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 also applies to personal data we process. Privacy questions and complaints sent to the email address above are answered by the person who runs the site.

The site is served over HTTPS and holds no database of visitors. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security. We keep little, and what we keep is the email described above and the records Cloudflare keeps under its own retention rules.

When this policy changes, the new version is posted here with its date, and a change that matters, such as adding ads or a form, is made here before it takes effect. Version 1.0, last updated: November 5, 2026. This is the first version; earlier versions, if there are any, will be listed here.
